Brazil concludes the World Series in France with three more golds

Eight events concluded the Paralympic swimming World Series in France this Sunday (9), a stage held in the city of Limoges. And the Brazilian team concluded its participation in the last preparatory event for the Paris-2024 Games with three more gold medals. The athletes who brought Brazil to the top step of the podium were: Samuel Oliveira, Gabriel Bandeira and Talisson Glock. The last two repeated the results obtained in the same events at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

World Series competitions in France were multiclass, meaning competitors with different types of disabilities swam in the same series, with rankings for finals and medals defined using the Technical Competition Index (ITC). And Samuel Oliveira, from the S5 class (physical-motor disability), was the first golden Brazilian of the day. The athlete from Sao Paulo won the 50 backstroke in 34.97. The double was achieved with silver going to Gabriel Araújo, with 54s00.

Then, Gabriel Bandeira, from class S14 (intellectual disability), swam the 100m butterfly in 56s15 and won the gold medal. To conclude the golden journey, Talisson Glock, from the S6 class (physical-motor deficit), won the 400 freestyle in 4’58’20. Second place in the 50 backstroke, Gabriel Araújo of Minas Gerais, Paralympic champion, also brought home another silver medal in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 4’04’91.

Brazil finished Sunday (8) with another silver medal in the Adult category. The third silver of the day was won by Lídia Cruz, from the S4 class (physical-motor disability), in the 50m backstroke, with a time of 52s18. Among the Juniors, Victor Almeida, from the S9 class (physical-motor deficit), placed second in the 100 meter butterfly, swimming in 1’05s81. To conclude the day of podiums, Carol Santiago, from the S12 (visually impaired) class, won bronze in the 100 meter butterfly (1’07s10).

Brazil at the World Series in France

With the results of the last day of the Paralympic Swimming World Series in France, Brazil concluded the competition with 24 podiums, including ten gold medals, ten silver medals and four bronze medals, which add to the results obtained in the Adult and Junior categories. The country was represented at the event by 16 athletes. The dispute in French waters occurred a week after the Berlin leg of the World Series.

The result in France was superior to that in Germany. In the Berlin stage, Brazil won 20 medals, seven gold, six silver and seven bronze, bringing together adults and juniors. In German waters the Brazilian team also recorded two world records. The two events were part of the national team’s preparation for the Paris Paralympic Games, which will begin on 28 August.
