Season 4 of “The Boys” delves into political polarization

Amazon Prime Video’s Emmy-winning satirical superhero series “The Boys” follows a team of misfit vigilantes who call themselves “The Boys” and who fight corrupt people with superpowers called “Supes.”

For the fourth season of the series, creator Eric Kripke wants to give a helpful warning about following the wrong leaders, especially when it comes to those who strive to divide people, like Homelander, the most powerful “Supe” who believes that humans they should be submissive to them. individuals with superpowers.

“It’s really nice to see a mirror of where we are now. What I think the show is trying to show is that there’s an intense polarization, an intense us versus them kind of demonization of the other side, this idea that there can only be a winner and a loser,” Kripke said.

“I think what the show is trying to show is that we are all manipulated into this position through algorithms and social media. And misinformation, billionaires and politicians, because it benefits them financially and politically, makes everyone allow us to be angry with each other,” he added.

The fourth season stars Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, the mean leader of “The Supes”, Karl Urban as William Butcher, the sharp leader of “The Boys”, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Jessie T. Usher and Karen Fukuhara.

This season, which premieres Thursday, tackles heavy political topics, such as abortion, racism, feminism and other issues that are also points of contention in the 2024 U.S. election.

The plot is inspired by a comic book story arc following a fictional presidential election that leads to a plot to overthrow the president.
