Apple ID is now called Apple Account; know what changes


Apple renames Apple ID to Apple Account in new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, but retains users’ existing credentials

With the iOS 18 announcements, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia e watchOS 11, the Apple revealed a change in the identification of Login in the corporate ecosystem: the traditional Apple ID, which for decades has represented the key to access Apple services, will be renamed Apple Account. According to the company’s official press release, the Apple account will use the “users’ existing credentials”, i.e. the only thing that will change will be the name and it will not be necessary to change passwords or make new registrations.

The change is already visible in the Beta versions of the new operating systems, made available to developers shortly after the announcements at WWDC 2024. The new nomenclature appears in several places, such as in the iCloud management section.

However, in other places, such as on the sign-in page of Apple’s website, the term Apple ID is still used. The complete migration to the “Apple Account” must be completed by the launch of the public versions of the new operating systems in the next six months.

Rumors from earlier this year indicated that Big Tech might change the name of the key to its services, as confirmed in Tuesday’s announcement (11).

Along with the name change, Apple is rolling out a visual overhaul of iCloud settings in iOS 18, with more options to let people manage their accounts directly from their iPhone. The change is intended to make it easier for you to access and control your personal information and services associated with your Apple account.

New Apple systems

iOS 18, along with other system updates, is currently being tested among developers and is expected to be released to the general public in September.

Among the innovations announced by the company for the new versions of its operating systems, the following stand out: Apple’s artificial intelligence suite, which features several tools that use artificial intelligence on devices.
