Netflix cancels Power Rangers and the 30-year-old series may be coming to an end


Netflix has decided to cancel the live-action Power Rangers series it was developing and to put all projects involving the franchise on hold

One of television’s most popular franchises may have its days numbered. Last Tuesday (11), it became public that the Netflix canceled the live-action series of Power Ranger which was in development and which would have represented a new chapter in the history of superheroes of Hasbro Entertainment.



The news, released by TV Line, reports that the streaming has decided to pause all projects involving the brand Power Rangers and which Netflix has been aiming for since 2021.

Hasbro, however, intends to move forward with the project, seeking to explore a new creative direction for the series and seeking partners interested in bringing it to the air.

Launched in 1993, Power Rangers Originally started as a live-action TV series based on the Japanese franchise Super Sentai. The production follows a group of multi-ethnic superheroes who lived in Alameda dos Anjos and who, led by Zordon, dedicated their lives to protecting the Earth.

Over the years and success of the show, the franchise has expanded into films, comics, electronic games and toys, becoming popular and loved by several generations.

Netflix itself had already launched several products set in this universe, such as the second season of the series Power Rangers: Dino Furiaexclusive to the platform and projects Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury AND Power Rangers: Now and Forever.

The latter, a special film for the anniversary of the franchise, gave fans a good part of its old cast, bringing together actors such as David Yost (Blue Ranger), Walter Emanuel Jones (Black Ranger), Steve Cardenas (Red Ranger) and Catherine Sutherland (Pink Ranger), as well as voice actress Barbara Goodson (Rita Repulsa).

Despite the reunion and the different projects, the universe’s scarce audience Power Rangers of having disappointed the streaming service, which chose to recalculate the path and suspend its investments in the franchise.
