Sonic might get side characters from the comics in his upcoming games


Sega reveals that some figures that appeared in the hedgehog comics may appear in future games in the franchise

Although Sonic has the famous Tails and Knuckles at his side, there are several characters that are part of the stories of the fastest hedgehog in games. But many of these figures seemed to be trapped in the pages of the hero’s comics forever, but according to Sega, that should change soon.

Takashi Iizuka, vice president of product development at the Japanese company and focused on the Sonic franchise, confirmed in an interview with the Sonic Stadium website that there is a very high possibility that characters that only appeared in comics from publisher IDW will appear . move on to the next games in the series.

Several characters from the Sonic comics have already made the leap from the pages to games, such as Big the Cat, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray The Flying Squirrel, who have participated in titles such as Sonic adventure, Knuckles’ Chaotix and in the porch SegaSonic the hedgehog.

According to Iizuka, there is no impediment to a character created in the comics from appearing in one of the games, stating that he has a great relationship with the IDW team. Two creations expected to make this transition soon are Rotor the Walrus and Lupe the Wolf, but the vice president did not confirm whether they will appear in console or mobile titles.

IDW Publishing is responsible for the comics Sonic the Hedgehog since 2017, with the first edition hitting US newsstands in April 2018. Since then, the series has remained solid and strong with monthly releases, with more than 70 editions, as well as specials and collections.

The Sonic comics feature a story loosely based on the games, pitting the hedgehog and his companions against villains such as Doctor Robotnik, among others.
