Latam ordered to pay R$30,000 after dog dies during flight

The animal even chewed through a wooden container to try to escape; the airline will comment on the case file.

The 18th Private Law Chamber of the Court of Justice of São Paulo increased Latam’s sentence in the case of a dog that died during a flight in 2021.

The company will have to compensate the couple responsible for the animal with R$30,000 for moral damages, R$15,000 each.

The article by Lauro Jardim of the newspaper says so The globe, the rapporteur of the appeal, Judge Sérgio Gomes, underlined that Latam would not have fulfilled the obligation for which it had been hired. “A death that could have easily been avoided if the company had paid due attention to the plight of the perpetrators,” he said.

Giuliano and Nathalia Conte sued Latam in 2022, after Weiser, an American bully, died during a trip between Guarulhos and Aracaju. The dog had been transported as live cargo in a wooden box and had even chewed the container in an attempt to escape the structure, which was small for its size. Only six hours after being confined, death was noted.
