More than forty years after the release of the first Star Wars film, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has answered a question that has long remained unanswered.
It seemed surprising to many fans that the Jedi Knight decided to entrust Luke Skywalker, the son of his former Padawan Anakin, to his uncle Owen Lars on Tatooine (Anakin’s son-in-law from his mother’s marriage to Skywalker’s farmer Klig. Lars).
Hiding Darth Vader’s son on the latter’s home planet doesn’t seem like a great idea, but the new Star Wars series has given us an explanation. Indeed, because he did not know that his former apprentice was still alive, Kenobi saw fit to hide Luke on Tatooine.
Especially since, with his twin sister separated from Leia, entrusted to Bail Organa on Alderaan, Obi-Wan thought he had covered his tracks sufficiently. However, there remains a mystery that the series didn’t answer: Why did Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru raise Luke as “Skywalker” and not as “Lars” (Leia was raised as him. Adoption or “Organa”)?
The Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series is now available on Disney+. Despite being requested by many fans of the Star Wars universe, a potential season 2 has not yet been officially ordered by the platform.
