A young German tourist couple hitchhikes to Australia. They visit Wolf Creek Crater. Unable to find a car to take them, they decided to sleep there in their tent.
They are awakened by Mick Taylor, a local bushman, who offers to drop them off at the nearest campsite, telling them that they are in a national park where camping is prohibited. The two young campers politely decline Mickey’s proposal. It’s a very bad calculation…
The horror film Wolf Creek, released in the summer of 2006, petrified its audience. The first feature film of its director Greg McLean, the film was inspired by real events in that the native – Mickey – was a mix between two very real killers: Bradley John Murdoch, the mechanic who took out the two Brits, and Ivan Milat. Arrested in 1994 for the murder of seven tourists.
Result ? A tense and visceral work; A pure waking nightmare of exceptional efficiency. It must also be said that this psychopath is brilliantly played by the terrible John Jarratt, who easily rises to the top, among the most evil, sadistic and depraved creatures we have seen on screen.
If Wolf Creek Unfortunately not available on any streaming platform, we will happily return to its sequel, released in 2013, visible on Prime Video. While it’s obviously preferable to have seen the first episode, it’s not necessarily a handicap if you haven’t!
This sequel shot by the same director has nothing to be ashamed of its predecessor, on the contrary. If it pushes the cursor even further and tortures the audience more than once, it is perfectly in line with the first film and just as effective. if not more. It’s enough to slightly encourage the urge to venture into the Australian outback…
