The Blade Runner franchise continues. Following the Ridley Scott classic released in 1982 and its sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve in 2017, Prime Video is developing the series Blade Runner 2099. According to Deadline, Hunter ShafferEuphoria and star of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, joins the cast alongside Michelle Yeoh.
As the title suggests, this new chapter takes place 50 years after the events of the previous film. In a press release, Amazon Studios co-president Vernon Sanders explained that the sequel will remain faithful “The Intelligence, Themes, and Spirit of Films.”.”
Ridley Scott will not return behind the camera, but will produce the show through his company Scott Free Productions, and Silka Louise – the screenwriter of the series Shining Girls with Elisabeth Moss – will be responsible for writing the episodes.
Filming is in progress
After a year-long delay due to the Hollywood strike, Blade Runner 2099 began shooting in full swing in April. If the footage was first shot in Belfast, then finally in Prague, Czech Republic.
At the age of 25, Hunter Shaffer has become one of the new faces of the Hollywood industry. Although the 3rd season of Euphoria is also experiencing a significant delay – production has been suspended for the duration of the rewrite – the HBO channel has given the actors the opportunity to engage in other projects.
Before finding him in this sci-fi series, Hunter Shaffer will star in Tillman Singer’s horror film Cuckoo.
