Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, 1985. Andrew Carter Thornton II, a mercenary cocaine kingpin nicknamed “Cocaine Cowboy,” drops three 30-kilogram bags of cocaine by plane, thinking the feds will spot him.
A trafficker hopes to find his goods by parachuting, but a stupid mistake prevents him from landing safely and he doesn’t survive the fall. It can be believed that clever or lucky people received bags full of cocaine dropped by mercenaries.
Unfortunately, it was a poor black bear that found the drug and swallowed it. The poor man did not survive this doping experience and his body was found a few days later. As a result of the autopsy, it was determined that his stomach was completely full of cocaine, about 15 kilos…
Later, the animal became famous and was celebrated with the nickname “Pablo Escobar” in a shopping mall in Kentucky. This crazy but true story inspired Elizabeth Banks and screenwriter Jimmy Worden to (re)discover it on Netflix.
The craziest movie of 2023
For her third feature film after Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie’s Angels, Elizabeth Banks has taken the liberty of taking on this crazy story to turn it into a completely insane horror comedy in which an animal kills everyone it meets. If you missed this crazy movie, know that it is now included in the Netflix catalog.
Crazy Bear (or Cocaine Bear in the original version) is a dark comedy featuring a misfit group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers who gather in the heart of the forest, deep in Georgia, right where a super predator is. Weighing more than 200 kilograms, completely deranged from a huge dose of cocaine, he is roaming, enraged and thirsty for blood.
The film can rely on an impeccable cast that can go crazy and deliver unforgettable sequences. We find Keri Russell (The Americans), Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer), Brooklyn Prince (The Florida Project), Margot Martindale (Your Honor), Christian Conover (Sweet Tooth), Christopher Hivju (Game of Thrones), Oshie Jackson Jr. (NWA: Straight Outta Compton), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire) and the late Ray Liotta.
Crazy Bear is available on Netflix.
