UFC Vegas 93: Main fight marred by Alex Perez’s injury

This Saturday (15th), once again the UFC held one of its events in Las Vegas, with two flyweights, Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira, facing each other in the main fight of the evening.

This Saturday (15), once again the UFC held one of its events in Las Vegas, with two flyweights, Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira, facing each other in the main fight of the night at APEX, in a major duel to discover Alexandre Pantoja’s possible next challenger.

The fight, however, was marred by a disappointing moment. During a fall in the second round, Perez suffered a knee injury that made it impossible for him to continue the fight. As a result, Taira ended up being named the winner of the duel by TKO.

Fight

Alex Perez began the main fight of UFC Vegas 93 by focusing on leg kicks and taking more initiative when trying to put Taira against the cage. The Japanese tried to throw punches and also had a good moment with knees, but it was the American who dictated the fight in its initial part, making good use of the threat of the takedown and his good striking game.

In the second round, Perez continued to connect punches, especially hooks, and low kicks on Taira, who resisted the pressure well and, as soon as he had the chance, lowered the fight, going behind the American. It was at this moment that the fight began to end.

When he got up, still with the Japanese on his back, Alex Perez fell to the octagon floor screaming in pain, proving that he had suffered a knee injury. The problem prevented the American from continuing the fight, and according to the rules of the fight, Taira was declared the winner by TKO.

Brazil’s night at UFC Vegas 93

There were five Brazilians fighting in Saturday’s event. After two defeats, Lucas Almeida faced Timmy Cuamba and paid no attention to the American. The featherweight from San Paolo made good use of his movements around the octagon and dominated Cuamba on his feet, who tried to take the fight to the ground, but without success. With this strategy, he took home the victory according to the judges’ decision and triumphed again in the UFC.

Gabriella Fernandes was looking against Carli Judice for a chance to finally win her first in Ultimate after losing her first two fights in the organization. Gabi had an even start to the fight, where striking reigned strong and with both fighters hitting hard. Judice was unable to take advantage of the takedown game, but she remained as long as possible above the standing Brazilian, without however overcoming the pressure of the fighter from Rio de Janeiro, who was better at striking and therefore finally winning in the Octagon.

Melk Costa had to suffer in his fight against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke. Pará initially had a chance to win the fight by submission in the first round, but at that moment the Chinese avoided defeat and began to press hard, managing to take the fight to the ground and stop the Brazilian. In the third round, however, “Melk Cauthy” took advantage of another Nuerdanbieke takedown to get on top, recover, lock the submission and win again in the UFC.

The same luck, however, did not happen to Douglas D’Silva. The bantamweight faced Miles Johns and had trouble against his rival. Trying to win to rehabilitate himself, the paráse had a good moment in the first round, but the American tried to grow in the second half and created a sequence that amazed the Brazilian, who was also hit by a left-footed shot. Eventually, Douglas managed to get a knee on Johns’ chin and even attempted a roundhouse kick, but nothing to prevent the defeat.

UFC debutant Julia Polastri faced Josefine Knutsson in the first fight of the event. Created by the Contender Series, the Duque de Caxias fighter suffered in the first part of the fight, coming under pressure from the Swede, but managed to defeat the fight. Most of the duel took place on the ground, in which the Brazilian had the upper hand and also tried to submit with the katagatame, but was interrupted by a precise strike from Knutsson. And even this effort did not materialize in the Brazilian’s long-awaited victory.
