Chantecler, the most rocking rooster of the fifties, forgot to sing one morning, but the sun still rose. Mocking, he leaves the farm, much to the joy of the Grand Duke Owl, who will soon be able to reign in eternal darkness. Canteler must return! This is a synopsis of Rock-o-Rico, an animated film directed by the great Don Bluth (Peter and Elliot the Dragon, Dragon’s Lair) and available on Prime Video.
From the age of 8
Roc-O-Rico adapts Edmond Rostan Chanteclair’s play by setting it in the heyday of rock and roll, hence casting Eddie Mitchell’s voice as Rooster and interpreting songs – very rock – from the film. . The film mixes “live” images and cartoons, but the special effects have aged quite badly, I must say, and the narrator is a little too topical. What remains is Bluth’s unparalleled animation talent, which brings life to Roc-o-Rico, which therefore deserves to be seen.
What will they like?

- Edmond, a little boy turned into a kitten against his will, who discovers that his new form will help him find Chanteclere and force the sun to rise.
- The songs, especially by Chantecler aka the King, are very catchy and very rock. Willingness to dance on the sofa is noteworthy!
- The atmosphere of the city, very “Chicago of the 50s”, softened and kid-friendly “gangster” imagery.
What could be bothering them?

- In the absence of the sun, the environment changes and becomes more disturbing.
- Torrential rain is the main danger facing the heroes, whose lives are sometimes threatened by floods.
- At the end, the Grand Duke, the film’s villain, becomes gigantic and even more dangerous than he already was.
