Clearly, Derek Connolly has his work cut out for him! If you don’t know his name, know that he is the writer of Jurassic World Saga, Kong Skull Island, Detective Pikachu or Star Wars, The Rise of Skywalker.

So the latter knows a thing or two about successful blockbusters; Those he has written or co-authored have grossed more than $6 billion at the worldwide box office. That’s why the screenwriter weighs heavily in the Hollywood world and more specifically in the action/adventure genre.
Most recently, Connolly was hired to write the scripts for two live-action video games: The Legend of Zelda and Metal Gear Solid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, another blockbuster screenplay commissioned from him by Paramount Studios, a crossover between the Transformers and GI Joe franchises. We don’t know yet who will direct this feature film.
Announced during the June 2023 Rise of the Beasts scene, this upcoming film was made official last April at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. We’ve since learned that Chris Hemsworth was in discussions to star in this crossover between the Hasbro toy licenses. This is the first time that these two huge sagas will meet on the big screen.
The ultimate crossover?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new opus will feature an alliance between the Autobots and GI Joe against the terrorist organization Cobra. If the Rise of the Beasts post-credits scene is to be believed, Anthony Ramos aka Noah Diaz will also be there opposite Chris Hemsworth.
Fun fact: Thor’s interpreter will lend his voice to Optimus Prime in Transformers The Beginning, in theaters on October 23, 2024. Paramount should have taken advantage of this collaboration on this animated film to offer him one of the main roles in The Cross. – with Jay Jo.
This time, Earth will not be the playground of Autobots and Decepticons. The story takes us to Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers. The story will particularly explore the relationship between the protagonist Optimus Prime and the antagonist Megatron. See you in theaters on October 23rd to discover this masterpiece by Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4).
For reference, the Transformers saga has earned 5.3 billion worldwide over 7 films. The GI Joe trilogy, on the other hand, made $718 million.
