The miniseries features Brazilian cartoonist Alex Lins on the creative team and is expected to show what happens when a stretchy man starts to age
Plastic Man is a comic book character who always seems very interesting, but is used in adaptations as comic relief. A new miniseries with a more adult tone is expected to address the horror surrounding a person with a stretchy body and when his body begins to age.

DC Comics has announced a new miniseries from Black Label, aimed at closed-ended, more adult stories involving its characters, this time focusing on Plastic Man. No more plastic men! It will be written by Christopher Cantwell, who has already written stories about Iron Man, Namor and Doctor Doom, and will have the art of the Brazilian Alex Lins, of Immortal Hulk, and the colors of the Brazilian Marcelo Maiolo.
Horror in the wake of David Cronenberg’s films
Cantwell revealed, in a press release, his desire to develop the story more inspired by the body horror genrealways a constant part of director David Cronenberg’s films, such as The fly and the recent Crimes of the future.
“There is an element of body horror in history [do Homem-Borracha] which I have always found fascinating. I recently wondered: How would Plastic Man actually die? What would he be like? Is he immortal? “Commented Cantwell.

In the first artwork released by the project, you can see this moment where Patrick “Eel” O’Brian faces his mortality, seeing his body begin to “disassemble” and melt.
“Plastic Man provided a way to take this trope even deeper. When we look in the mirror and see one thing, then we see an image of ourselves and don’t recognize that person at all. With all these questions, in the story comes a real and profound fear of growing old and, yes, of what lies beyond: dying.”

- Superman has already admitted that he is afraid of fighting a Justice League hero
No more plastic men! should address the character’s past, when he was a simple thief who saw his life change completely, becoming a hero, a member of the Justice League and suffering from a deep fear of growing old. Furthermore, he imagines what it would be like for him to die for someone without bones and that he can stretch himself like a superhero.
The miniseries is expected to have four editions, the first of which will be released in the United States in September 2024.
