‘Minions: The Origin of Gru’: A viral TikTok challenge causes riots in movie theaters

The “gentleminions” of generation Z dress up in suits to mess it up in the passes of ‘Minions 2’

    A new viral challenge is wreaking havoc in theaters American, Australian and UK. The “gentleminions” are groups of teenagers (and not so teenagers) who They go to the movie theaters in suits and mess it up watching ‘Minions: The Origin of Gru’.

    The fashion that emerged on TikTok It started out as a nice gesture. Imagine going to the cinema to see an animated family film and finding yourself with dozens of teenagers dressed in their best clothes to enjoy the session. The contrast is absurd and shocking, therefore it is fun. It has even received support from the official Universal and Minions social media accounts. So far so good.

    The problem has arisen when some have taken the meme and turned it into something else. UK and US cinemas have reported incidents with these “gentleminions” and even some networks have issued statements forbidding entry to these groups of young men in suits.

    “Because a small number of incidents in our cinemas over the weekend, we have had to restrict access in some circumstances,” a spokesman for the Odeon chain confirmed to the BBC.

    Another cinema in Cornwall has hung a sign at the entrance prohibiting entry to “groups of visitors in formal attire due to recent riots regarding the ‘gentleminions’ fashion.”

    Reports indicate that the “gentleminions” scream during the projection, make a racket and even throw objects towards the screendisturbing the viewing of the rest of the spectators.

    Despite all these incidents, the sequel is still a success at the box office and has raised over $200 million globally in its first weekend, which coincided with the 4th of July holiday in the US.
