Inside and Out 2 | 5 Moments When Anxiety Disrupted Riley’s Mind

In Inside Out 2, anxiety is one of the emotions that dominates Riley’s mind the most. You discover the 5 moments in which he disturbed the girl’s life.

The animation Inside out 2 will be released in theaters on June 20th. The film shows protagonist Riley entering adolescence and dealing with four new emotions; Boredom, Shame, Envy and Anxiety, the latter is what steals the show from the plot and messes with your head.

Orange in color, Anxiety represents the fear of the future, of what is still unknown and what may or may not happen one day. This excitement comes as Riley faces new challenges, like a hockey tryout that could put her on the professional team. Furthermore, the girl also has to deal with the changes that puberty has brought to her body, and with the fact that her best friends will no longer study at the same school as her.

With so many changes, Riley’s head becomes a real mess and the primary emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger and Disgust – must find a way to control the new feelings before it’s too late. But dealing with anxiety can be much harder than you think.

Check five times in a row where the character disturbed the protagonist’s mind. But be careful! This text may contain spoilers.

5. When Riley is unhappy being away from her friends

When Riley finds out that she will no longer be studying with her two best friends, she feels distressed and confused, feeling like everything is changing around her. She behaves naturally in front of the girls, but when she gets out of the car she bursts into tears.

At that moment it is Sadness that takes control, but it is easy to see that all the girl’s anguish was already the result of an orange animal called Anxiety that would have bothered her a lot.

4. When Riley leaves her old friends aside

Still talking about the protagonist’s friends, when Riley is chatting with the new hockey team, the two old colleagues come over to start a chat and end up talking about the boy band they love.

Seeing that her new hockey friends – who are older – laugh at the band in question and say that the singers are childish, Riley decides to ignore their tastes and opinions and pretends to despise the band too. At this moment, it is the anxiety of being excluded or ridiculed that causes the protagonist to stop being who she really is and pretend to like something that she doesn’t like.

3. When Riley meets the hockey player

Another major moment where anxiety steals the show is when Riley meets Val, an older hockey player who is on the professional team. Riley has always admired her and seen her as an example of an athlete, and when the two meet, she is so eager that she puts her foot in her mouth and says a lot of nonsense.

2. When Riley has bad thoughts before bed

One of the most memorable moments of Inside out 2, happens when Riley gets ready for bed the day before the game that would change her life. At that moment Anxiety projects onto the “screen of your conscience” all the possible scenarios that would go wrong; the fact that she got hurt, that she failed to score a goal, that her friends on the rival team won, among many other imaginary problems.

This prevents her from sleeping and the next day she is completely tired and exhausted.

1. When Riley becomes aggressive in the game

Due to not sleeping well and having a head full of anxious thoughts, Riley enters the decisive match very nervous and agitated. He believes that if he scores at least three goals he will get a place in the professional team.

However, with anxiety controlling her mind, the protagonist fails to realize that her friends only want to help her and becomes aggressive and angry. In addition to not accepting help from her teammates, she is still missing and has to stay out of the game for two minutes. During this time, Riley suffers a nervous breakdown and an anxiety attack that culminates in shortness of breath and blurred vision.
