Students at the Tonico Barão state school, in General Salgado, São Paulo, found a scorpion in their school lunch. The animal was found on the food plate of one of the students and the case was reported to the authorities this Tuesday 18th. The information comes from TV TEM.

According to information from the broadcaster, the meal was distributed to high school students, aged between 14 and 17. The case came to light after a photo was shared on social media.

The scorpion was found on a lettuce leaf. After the student’s parents had access to the image, they notified the school.

In a statement, the São Paulo State Department of Education (Seduc-SP) regretted the incident. “Immediately after becoming aware of the matter, the school management removed and sanitized the kitchen utensils. The managers of the student who identified the case were called for clarification. The information will be passed on to the other employees of the unit. “

The Fernandópolis Education Council also reported that the teaching unit underwent a disinfestation in April this year, valid until October, and that no similar cases have been recorded in the school so far.

After the case, the school nutritionist was called to inspect the kitchen and provide guidance on hygiene procedures and food storage, especially vegetables.

A representative of the School Works and Maintenance Center (NOM) also intervened on site to carry out an assessment of all school spaces and verify their hygiene and cleanliness conditions.

The city council informed in a statement that the vegetables are received packaged by the supplier and that the state school is responsible for cleaning, handling and preparing the food.
