19th CineOp highlights animation, discusses the impact of AI on preservation and proposes cinema in schools

The Ouro Preto Film Festival, the only one on the festival circuit to treat cinema as heritage and dedicate its programming to preservation, history and education, takes place from June 19th to 24th

The city of Ouro Preto, a World Heritage Site, will be the headquarters of the 19th CineOPOuro Preto Cinema Showbetween the 19th and 24th of June.

This is the only Brazilian event focusing on cinema as heritage and the first to structure the program around three themes: preservation, history and education. Each of them has complementary activities, such as film sessions, debates, conversation circles, case studies and book launches.

During six days of intense and free programming, the public will watch more than 32 cinema sessions with screenings for all ages in two cinemas installed especially for the event: the Cine-Praça, open-air, in Praça Tiradentes (audience of 500 places); and the Cine-Teatro, at the Convention Center (seat capacity of 510).

In addition to the sessions, activities include debates, masterclassesconversation circles, workshops, musical attractions and various other activities spread across the city.

In the audiovisual programming, there are 153 films in previews and thematic exhibitions – (15 feature films, 1 medium film and 122 short films), coming from 7 countries (Brazil, Angola, Argentina, Benin Colombia, France and Portugal) and 18 states Brazilians (AC, BA, CE, DF, ES, GO, MA, MG, MS, PA, PB, PE, PI, PR, RJ, RS, SC, SP) distributed in eight exhibitions: Contemporary, Homage, Preservation, Historical , Education, Festival, Cine-Escola, Contemporânea TV UFOP and IC Play.

CineOP has stood out not only for its differentiated conceptual approach of approaching cinema broadly on three thematic fronts – preservation, history and education –, but also for being a privileged space for discussing public policies for audiovisual preservation and the connections between cinema and education – two languages ​​that enrich each other by holding meetings, encouraging reflections, provoking discussions, presenting projects, initiatives and films that are thought-provoking and strong in their relationship with their time and what they represent. Throughout its history, it has always been attentive to changes in the field of preservation, at the same time that it proposes to look at history with a future perspective and, furthermore, it has brought education and cinema closer together, creating spaces for collective construction to contribute to the current and urgent moment. for the presence of audiovisual in schools. – Raquel Hallakgeneral coordinator of CineOP.

To be carried out in CineOPthe 19th National Meeting of Brazilian Audiovisual Archives and Collections and the Education Meeting: XVI Forum of the Kino Network remain reference environments for discussions and definitions for professionals and educators.

In total, 31 debates and conversation circles are planned, with the participation of more than 120 national and international professionals in the most varied activities and meetings.
