A bill providing for the collection of fees for streaming platforms is being examined by the Chamber of Deputies, but is being criticized by the opposition.

This week Lula called for grassroots government coordination to pass the legislation. The president also stated that the measure will allow the country “to be free, sovereign, master of its nose, master of its art and its future.”

The president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) Aloizio Mercadante strengthened the request to federal deputies. According to him, it is necessary to “work hand-to-hand” to approve the proposal.

The bill provides for a contribution from the platforms of up to 6% of the gross annual turnover to Condecine (Contribution for the development of the national film industry). The text also provides that the catalog of streaming companies must include Brazilian works.
