The Yellowstone series is finally coming to an end, and unfortunately it’s not a happy ending that awaits fans of the show. After months of uncertainty and despite his recent upbeat statements, Kevin Costner has finally announced that he will not be returning for the final season of the Western series.
Originally intended to last seven seasons, Yellowstone was eventually shortened to five seasons. The conflict between John Dutton’s translator and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan is particularly to blame.
Artistic differences were a source of intense tension between the two men until filming delays for the second part of Season 5 forced Kevin Costner to leave the series for good.
Kevin Costner talks directly to his fans
The 69-year-old actor and director, who was fully committed to filming his Western Mural Horizon: An American Saga, was unable to film the final episodes of Yellowstone. Therefore, the end of the Western series will be without him, although we do not yet know how this absence will be treated in the story.
Kevin Costner said goodbye to the program that revived his career with a message to his fans on social networks. His performance in Yellowstone notably earned him a Golden Globe for Best Drama Actor, but also brought him back to the front of the bill after years of crossing the desert in Hollywood:
I wanted to come forward and let you know that after a year and a half of working on Horizon and continuing to think about all that Yellowstone could bring, this series that I love as much as you do, I’ve come to the realization that I’m not going to finish Season 5 or the next project. This is the series that changed everything for me. I enjoyed making it and I know you did. I wanted to tell you that I’m not coming back, that I really loved your relationship and I’m seeing you at the cinema.

The completion date for Yellowstone has been announced
To this disappointing news, however, more encouraging information is added, as the Paramount+ platform has just announced the date of transmission of the last episodes of Yellowstone. The western series will indeed return on November 10 for an undisclosed number of episodes.

Broadcasting since 2017, Yellowstone takes place in the present day. The series follows a family at the helm of a huge ranch that is coveted by many real estate developers. Like their ancestors from the Wild West, the Duttons will have to fight to maintain an old-fashioned way of life that is threatened by the changes in our society.
A number of franchise expansion plans have already been announced. A sequel (tentatively titled 2024) is coming soon, as is a spin-off 6666 (centered on the character of Jim). In addition to the second season of 1923, a new prequel to 1944 will begin filming soon.
The latest episodes of Yellowstone can be seen on November 10, exclusively on Paramount+.
