Should not culture benefit from a sovereign ministry?

Since culture in my project is the basis of the Republican Pact, it is necessary to have a dedicated ministry that has the means to carry out its missions. Rather than knowing whether it should be sovereign, it seems to me that it is important now to consider cultural policy not only as a sectoral policy but also as a cross-policy: at the heart of development policy areas, at the heart of ecological transition, at the center of social affairs, education, housing and solidarity .

Is cinema necessarily a political art? What inspires your recovery that can be done around a job like the recent “Bac Nord”?

I do not believe. In any case, it does not have to exist. Some films are very loyal, some deal with political issues to make the viewer aware of reality, some may be aesthetic gestures. Sometimes everything can fit together. Again, every director has the freedom to build his story the way he wants. Nevertheless, I believe that there is a significant correlation between the state of society and the evil that affects it and the creativity of artists and authors. The work is always a product of a specific environment.

As for the political capture of Bac Nord by the ultra-right, I noted that the director, Cedric Jimenez, described it as “unfortunate.” I have nothing else to add. There is no problem with the film being political; On the other hand, it is always necessary to deconstruct its political interpretations / restoration.

Do movies and TV series, among other things, have a call, in your opinion, to help “cross the lines” in social issues (parity, diversity, etc.)?

This is naturally the case, but in a way that it is not in itself a goal or a calling. Creative freedom is a cardinal principle that must be upheld.

But it is clear that serials and movies, especially in recent years, have been involved in awakening the rescue conscience, even in an awakening that needs to be translated politically. I am thinking here about the status of women in our society, about all the discrimination that crosses them, about the sense of social, economic, territorial and cultural degradation experienced by our fellow citizens. Resolving tensions, our ability to build a common future belongs to us. What happens after the final masterpiece picture ᲣSuitable ? It is up to us to determine it collectively.
