The task force of the Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (DMLU) continues to work on post-flood cleanup in Porto Alegre, reaching five locations this Sunday (23). Since operations began on May 6, 78,673 tonnes of waste have been removed from the streets, including furniture scraps, accumulated sludge and swept waste. The focus this Sunday is the Northern Zone, with a joint effort on the internal streets of the Sarandi district.
Mutirào in Sarandi
The clean-up action in the Sarandi neighborhood will take place this weekend (22 and 23 June), concentrating efforts in Vila Elizabeth. The area is one of the largest in the capital, with around 70 thousand inhabitants, according to the 2010 census. “Sarandi was one of the neighborhoods most affected by the flood and one of the last to see the waters recede. Furthermore, it covers a vast territorial area , which is why we have decided to intensify efforts in the region this weekend,” emphasizes DMLU Director General Carlos Alberto Hundertmarker.
Cleanup Task Force
Around 1,040 street cleaners work in the neighborhoods most affected by the Guaíba flood.
