It is the second weekend in a row that the region has received protests against the proposal. The rally took place around 3pm and lasted until Sunday afternoon. The rally took place around 3pm and lasted until Sunday afternoon. Those present at the event called for the legalization of abortion, with slogans such as “the body is ours” and protest banners against the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
Protesters’ protests persist even after Lira announced the formation of a “representative commission” to debate the issue, following the negative repercussions.
Two weeks ago, in a vote that lasted five seconds, the Chamber approved the urgency of the bill, sponsored by the Evangelical Parliamentary Front, which guarantees accelerated treatment of the issue at the National Congress.
Despite the negative reception, marked by protests against the proposal across Brazil, the Evangelical Bank maintains support for the project. Lira has already said that the rapporteur, who will be able to make changes to the text, will be “a woman, moderate and centrist”.
There were also protests this Sunday on Copacabana beach in Rio.
