Is it worth checking out?

for the cellar is a four-part drama series that tells the story of Andrew and Niche, a couple facing one of the most difficult realities parents can face.

Their 13-year-old daughter Marnie suffers from muscular dystrophy, an incurable degenerative disease. After a severe lung infection, the latter had to be hospitalized again. As they no longer had hope for his survival, the doctors suggested that the treatment be stopped in his best interest.

A long fight begins for Nitch, Andrew and their second daughter Katie. Once reunited, Lloyd’s family gradually begins to tear itself apart. Indeed, Nichi hopes and wants her daughter to live at any cost, while Andrew gradually sides with the doctors. A conflict that will eventually be resolved in court.

With For Marnie, Jack Thorne, the screenwriter of the series, is not afraid to tackle such a delicate and sensitive issue. If the plot takes us on a real emotional elevator, the series does not limit itself to evoking sympathy from the audience, but also encourages them to question themselves.

There is no Manichaeism in this story, but a clash of viewpoints on the crucial but oh-so-difficult issue of ending life for children. Approaching the subject with tact, subtlety and emotion, without any bias on the part of the screenwriter.

If the script is simply brilliant and exciting, we must also highlight the intense interpretations of Michael Sheen and Sharon Horgan, who embody with incredible intensity these parents faced with impossible choices.

The unconditional love their characters feel for their daughter, the questions they face and the emotions they experience throughout the series touched us deeply.

Through this family drama, the series contributes to the debate by questioning the limits of therapeutic ruthlessness or even respect for the patient’s dignity. An essential reflection on a subject that is still very taboo in our society. Pour Manie is a must watch series!
