Authorities in Honolulu, Hawaii, confirmed the death of Tamayo Perry. The actor was part of the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean and he was 49 years old. He was attacked this Sunday (23rd) by a shark while surfing on Malaekahana beach.
Perry was saved by paramedics, but did not survive his injuries. Posters warning of shark attacks were put up in the area after the incident, ocean safety officials said.
In addition to being an actor, he was a professional lifeguard and surfer for over 10 years. According to Kurt Lager, Honolulu’s acting ocean safety chief, Tamayo Perry was “a lifeguard everyone loved.” He also stressed that the actor’s personality was contagious and he regretted what happened.
The city’s mayor, Rick Blangiardi, also spoke about the situation. He called Perry’s death a “tragic loss” and said he was a highly respected man. He also recalled that the actor grew up in Hawaii and was a member of the region’s ocean safety team.
