Spain provided further proof of their Euro 2024 title credentials, with a goal from Ferran Torres enough for their reserve team to beat Albania 1-0, making it three wins in three matches in Group B this season Monday.
Already guaranteed to reach the round of 16 as group leader, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente made 10 changes to the starting line-up that defeated reigning champions Italy.
Several players questioned De La Fuente for the final stage of the tournament, including man of the match, Torres, whose precise finish in the 13th minute decided the match.
While Spain equaled their 2008 feat by winning all their group matches on their way to the title, Albania’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages for the first time were dashed.
Albania finished last in the group with one point.
Spain top the group with nine points, followed by Italy in second with four, after drawing 1-1 in the dying seconds with Croatia, who finished third with just two points.
Albania’s defeat also had consequences on other fronts. France, Holland and England advance to the next round before the final group matches.
