In 1922, the world was introduced to one of the classic and most important horror films in the history of cinema: ‘Nosferatu’. The black and white silent film showed a vampire on screen for the first time and a remake of it will soon be released. That’s all you need to know about it.
What is the plot of 1922’s ‘Nosferatu’?
The original story is set in the 19th century, in the fictional German town of Wisborg, where young Thomas Hutter lives happily with his wife Ellen. However, everything changes when shady estate agent Knock sends Hutter to Transylvania to close a deal with Count Orlok.
The earl wishes to buy an estate in Wisborg, which is close to Hutter’s house. As the story unfolds, obsessions, love, seduction and fear are unleashed and the terrifying vampire stalks young Helen, causing unspeakable horror.
According to the “Variety” portal, this new version promises to respect the gothic style and scare the audience, while maintaining the original plot. It will be brought to the big screen by Robert Eggers, one of the most acclaimed directors of the last decade for his work in horror films, responsible for films such as “The Witch”, “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman”.
Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp Star in ‘Nosferatu’ Remake: All the Details
Starring in the film is Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hatter, the woman with whom Nosferatu, played by Bill Skarsgård, begins to become obsessed. Nicholas Hoult is Thomas Hatter, Helen’s husband and estate agent who contacts the earl without knowing he is a vampire.
The other actors in the film are Willem Dafoe as Albin Eberhart Von Franz, the vampire hunter, Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding and Emma Corrin will play Anna Harding.
The film’s trailer is garnering positive attention from fans, who believe that Robert Eggers will deliver material that will once again revolutionize horror cinema as he has done in the past.
An interesting detail is that at the moment what Nosferatu will look like is still a mystery, because the trailer does not show his face in detail, thus causing more intrigue.
As for its premiere, the remake of “Nosferatu” has been confirmed to hit theaters on December 25, 2024, which will make it stand out from the typical Christmas movies, offering something different to the holiday season.
