Netflix: Only one week left to watch the best movie of your childhood!

This is the movie that has been with every kid (or almost) since it came out in 1985. Produced by Amblin Entertainment, the source of countless memes, The Goonies is one of those hallowed works that partially shape childhood. And he’s leaving Netflix

What is it about?

Astoria is a modest and peaceful port city on the west coast. Too quiet for its young inhabitants… “Nothing happens here,” he sighed one day, wistfully. Thirteen-year-old Mickey Walsh has just uttered one of those fateful phrases that sometimes heralds the strangest, craziest, and funniest adventures.

The Goonies, directed by Richard Donner, written by Chris Columbus with Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton, Anne Ramsey…

Some would say it’s the best movie in the world. If that claim is a bit of an exaggeration, The Goonies is undoubtedly one of the best movies to watch as a kid and binge-watch as an adult. Richard Donner signs a real adventure film with an epic side, but also a lot of tenderness.

In their epic, Mike (Sean Astin) and others learn the concept of autonomy through a somewhat insane quest. Searching for treasure, falling into traps, and staying united in the face of adversity (and scary Jojos), they discover the values they need to enter adulthood and face the obstacles ahead.

A classic among classics

The Goonies was released in 1985, a blessed year for popular American cinema that saw other iconic films such as Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, A Dream Creature and Teen Wolf hit the big screen. All these films, like The Goonies, are part of the classic film culture of the 80s.

Also, even if the screenplay is written by Chris Columbus, the original idea belongs to Steven Spielberg. And it’s true, there’s a little Indiana Jones tone to the adventure of these kids who set out to find the treasure of Willy le Bourgne!

It’s also an opportunity to discover a softer side of Josh Brolin. For his first film role, he plays Brands Mike’s older brother, a bad character on the outside, but who hides a sensitive or even cute side. A sensitivity in his acting that we saw much less of later, especially in the Avengers movies or Deadpool 2.

And then it’s a little bit like the original Stranger Things. Like the Duffer Brothers series, The Goonies features a group of 80s teenagers, except there’s no science fiction. But we meet the same benevolent spirit. One who does good.

The Goonies leaves the Netflix catalog on July 14.
