Fighting anime, also known as battle shounen, is one of the most popular genres of Japanese animation in Brazil and around the world. Famous works such as Dragon Ball, Knights of the Zodiac, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto and One Piece are some of the titles of this genre that have achieved great success and have won the hearts of many fans.

These anime are characterized by having stories focused on action and the drama of battles, with martial arts and special powers.

While many titles are well-known, there are several hidden gems available on streaming services that are worth your attention. Here are some lesser-known battle anime that are definitely worth watching.

Young Baki Hanma is a fighter determined to surpass his father, Yujiro Hanma, known as the strongest human in the world. To do so, he will have to face countless opponents, each with unique abilities and fighting styles!

The manga, written by Keisuke Itagaki, has been published since 1991, with several parts and sagas. In animation it has three main series: Baki The Grappler (2001), Baki (2018) and Baki Hanma (2021).

The 2018 and 2021 seasons are available on Netflix, which are set after the events of the 2001 series. Since the connection between the plots is vague, it is possible to follow the series without watching the first one, which unfortunately is not officially available.

Kenichi: The Strongest Disciple in History

The weak and shy teenager Kenichi Shirahama is often bullied at school. But, after meeting transfer student Furinji Miu, a disciple of a martial arts dojo, Kenichi decides to learn to fight to defend himself.

The original manga is written by Syun Matsuena, published from 1999 to 2014. The anime adaptation took place between 2006 and 2007 and has 50 episodes, as well as a continuation in OVA (direct to video) with a further 11 episodes.

Ushio to Tora

Young Ushio Aotsuki is a member of a family who cares for an ancient temple in Japan. One of his ancestors was a great warrior who managed to defeat the monster Tora by pinning him to a rock. To do this, he used the abilities of a cursed spear, which grants its wielder powers such as strength and speed.

However, in order to deal with the attack of the demons on the temple, Ushio frees Tora, who had been imprisoned for centuries, to help him. Now, together, they will face many dangers as they try to understand the connection between their destinies.

Based on the manga (1990-1996) by Kazuhiro Fujita, the anime was produced between 2015 and 2016 and has 39 episodes.

Karakuri Circus

A young heir to a large fortune finds himself embroiled in a sinister plot involving dangerous mechanical puppets and a mysterious disease called Zonapha. To face these challenges he will be able to count on the help of a circus artist affected by Zonafa and a talented puppeteer linked to his family.

The action-mystery plot unfolds into a conspiracy that could define the future of humanity, revealing the origin of automatons and Zonapha syndrome.

This is another work based on a manga by Kazuhiro Fujita, author of Ushio and Tora. The anime has 36 episodes and was published between 2016 and 2017.

WorldTrigger

When a gateway to another dimension opens on Earth, beings known as Neighbors begin to invade. To combat this threat, the Border organization trains individuals with special abilities called Triggers.

The story follows Yuma Kuga, an undercover neighbor trying to understand his past, and Osamu Mikumo, an inexperienced border agent.

The anime is an adaptation of Daisuke Ashihara’s manga and has 99 episodes, produced between 2014 and 2022.

Bad luck not dead

Fuuko Izumo is a young woman cursed with a power that brings bad luck and even death to anyone who touches her. One day she meets Andy, an immortal man who seeks death. She decides to team up with Fuuko, since she can bring him the death she so desires.

However, their meeting will lead to a larger plot, in which they will have to face an organization that aims to control individuals with special abilities.

The original manga is written by Yoshifumi Tozuka and is still being published. The anime has a season of 24 episodes!

Chronicle of Ragnarok

Gods from different mythologies decide to exterminate humanity. However, humans are given one last chance to survive in a fighting tournament between gods and humans.

With epic and grand fights, this anime will appeal to fans of the genre who love fast-paced battles and stories with fighting tournaments, such as Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho.

The original manga continues to be published and now has more than 20 volumes. To date, the anime has one season with 27 episodes.

Heaven of Hell: Jigokuraku

Gabimaru, a ninja sentenced to death, is sent to a mysterious island in search of the elixir of immortality. There he will face monstrous creatures and other killers in a fight for survival.

With a ninja theme, this anime is from the famous Mappa studio (Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan) and so far has one season with 13 episodes. The original manga has already ended with 13 volumes.
