Stranger Things wrapped up Volume 2 Season 4 with two epic episodes. Aside from the jaw-dropping cliffhanger, season four left fans reeling with many unanswered questions and mysteries. Thus, the season ended with a merciless battle against Vecna and its consequences in Hawkins. Season 5, which will be the last, will be the last chance to answer these unanswered questions.
Authorities attributed the destruction of Hawkins caused by Vecna to an earthquake. However, observant citizens know that there is something else going on in this small town where tragedies seem to be piling up. Unfortunately, Eddie was still responsible for the events, with some conspiracy theorists accusing the Hellfire Club of Satanism and therefore opening portals to the underworld.
Technically, that’s not too far from the truth, except that the members of the Hellfire Club, including Eddie, instead tried to protect their city. As for the plan to kill Vecna, it went wrong. Most of the main characters survive the confrontation, but Max is in a deep coma.
The group eventually reunited in Hawkins and is no longer scattered across the United States. But there are plenty of mysteries waiting to be solved, from Max’s fate to the Russians’ ulterior motives in their prison. Here are the top unanswered questions we’re asking ourselves as we wait for Season 5.
Will Max come out of his coma?
Max was technically dead from Vecna’s curse for a minute, but Elven used his powers to bring his friend back to life. The revelation was made when Eli and the gang returned to a devastated Hawkins. In addition to finding Max in a coma, Lucas shared his concern that she would not wake up.
Max’s fate remains a major issue for Season 5. Although there is still hope, the road to recovery may not be easy, given that he was left with broken limbs and blindness. When Eleven tried to find Max in the vacuum (astral projection), she was alone, meaning that Max might be brain dead.
How do we find Hawkins in the Season 5 time jump?
The Duffer Brothers have said that Stranger Things Season 5 will feature a time jump. And as a quick reminder, episode 9 ended with the gang watching the upside spill over into their world. Nature dies as it progresses. Hawkins’ status at the start of Season 5 will be a major question.
It is possible that Hawkins will become a quarantine zone that has become uninhabitable. While many of the townspeople were on the run, it will be interesting to see what the families of the main characters decide to do now that Hawkins is on the upside. There is also the question of whether Mike, Nancy, Lucas and Dustin will tell their parents the truth and how far the upside will go.

Is Dr. Sam Owens alive?
Dr. Brenner eventually inhaled Volume 2, but his project accomplice Nina remained in the compound and no one knew what happened to her. After supporting Helen, who wanted to go rescue her friends in Hawkins, Brenner had his men arrest Owens.
He was still strapped in when Colonel Sullivan and the US Army entered the underground base. Ever the loyal ally, Owens tried to convince Sullivan to let Eleven live, but the serviceman wouldn’t listen. Although El shot down the helicopter along with the other vehicles, it is unknown what happened to Owens and whether Sullivan saved him.
Will Sullivan continue to pursue Eleven?
Without any means of transportation, Sullivan and his men were unable to track Eleven after she was rescued by Jonathan, Argyle, Will, and Mike, who arrived in a van. They stayed in the desert and watched the van drive away. So it’s unclear what’s next for Sullivan.
Members of the government clearly see Eleven as a threat, but it remains to be seen if they will hold her responsible for the events at Hawkins while she was away “during the earthquake.” Hopper and Joyce are likely hiding out with the kids since they’re all targets now, but the government might finally trust Eleven as the situation reaches a boiling point.

Will Callie come back now that Dr. Brenner is dead?
Kali was mentioned in season 4. Now that Brenner is dead, he might have landed. As revealed in Season 2, Callie, aka Eight, and her group of friends have sworn revenge on those associated with Hawkins’ lab. Brenner was at the top of this list.
Although Kali was unpopular with fans, her return could be a satisfying conclusion to her Season 2 storyline. He could return to participate in One with the other surviving test subjects. Even if she doesn’t have revenge on Brenner, she can help her “sister” in an extremely dangerous moment.
What were the Russians planning with the Demogorgons?
We learned from Season 4 that the prisoners were serving food to the Demogorgon that Hopper and Dimitri encountered in Volume 1. However, Volume 2 confirmed that the Russians not only had more Demogorgons in the tank, but were also studying Demodogs and Mind Flayer particles.
Now the question is what did the Russians do with the upside down creatures. It is understandable that the Russians want to investigate their existence. However, there is also reason to believe that they wanted to go in headfirst to collect more monsters and possibly use them as weapons.

Will Nancy choose Jonathan or Steve (or neither)?
While the love triangle between Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve was delayed in Season 2, the theme returned in Season 4. It became clear that the distance was not ideal for Nancy and Jonathan’s relationship. However, things got complicated when he spent more time with Steve before Hawkins’ group confronted Vecna. Several pieces of evidence suggested that Nancy might still have feelings for Steve.
In Volume 2, Steve finally confesses his love. But everything stopped when Jonathan returned to Hawkins. Nancy assured Jonathan that their relationship was still strong, but the dialogue was unconvincing. Therefore, the main question in Season 5 will be whether Nancy stays with Jonathan or prefers Steve. Or choose celibacy!
What happened to Murray, Dimitri and Yuri?
During the Season 4 finale, Hopper and Joyce stalk the children in Hopper’s cabin. They were dropped off by Constable Stinson, who answered their call after Dimitri and Yuri were airlifted from a Russian prison. That said, Murray was not present and it is not known what happened to Dimitri and Yuri after they arrived in the United States.
While they may have wanted to cut ties with Yuri, it would make sense to stick with Murray because he’s fully engaged in head-to-head combat. We can also ask a question about Dimitri, as Murray hinted to Russ that he might join them in Indiana. But it is also possible that he went in search of his son.

Can Vekna really be defeated?
Eleven made it clear that she could match the powers of one in certain situations, but defeating Vecna was never considered a simple matter. As part of the plan, Nancy, Steve, and Robin attack Vecna’s physical body while her mind is distracted. Thanks to Nancy’s Molotov cocktails and shotgun blasts, the trio got the better of Vecna, but she still managed to survive and her curse caused part of Hawkins to be destroyed.
Vecna’s ultimate plan to take over the world has not come to fruition, and he will not stop until he is defeated forever. As he told Eleven, this was just the beginning, “the beginning of the end.” The group has managed to kill the upside-down creatures, destroy the collective consciousness that unites the upside-down creatures, and defeat the Mind Flayer several times, but Vecna is the power behind it all. It will never end until Vecna is killed forever. At the moment, this is almost impossible.
Could he have a bigger role in Season 5?
We can only see that Will has been underutilized for several seasons, and Season 4 was no exception. He could (should?) have been the main character of the season, but his narrative arc was limited to questions about his sexual orientation. He painfully put his feelings on hold to help Mike and then Eleven, but these episodes still didn’t give Will a chance to shine.
This may change in Season 5 after Will confirms that he sensed Vecna’s presence. It all started with Willy’s disappearance, so it would be fitting for Willy to be a big part of Stranger Things’ ending. A bigger role for Willie has been on many fans’ wish lists for the past few years. It’s time for the Duffer brothers to do him justice.

How will Stranger Things Season 5 end?
The biggest question coming out of Season 4 is how this will all play out in the show’s fifth and final season. As we’ve seen above, the Netflix series has a lot of mysteries to solve before the grand finale unveils various storylines. There may be an open door for potential sequels and spin-offs, but the main conflict centered on Hawkins and the Upside-down needs to be resolved.
Eleven will always feel responsible for what happened, but she’s also the only one who can lead the charge to save Hawkins and possibly the world. If Eleven and the others manage to defeat Vecna, all the doors to the Upside Down must be closed forever. An alternate dimension may also need to be destroyed to end any threat. And even if the group succeeds, it’s unlikely they’ll come out completely unscathed.
