Japanese manga artist and game creator Kazuki Takahashi, best known for being the creator of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” died this Wednesday at the age of 60.
According to Cold bleeding, Takahashi’s body was found yesterday off the coast of Nago, Okinawa, by Japanese Coast Guard officials. He wore diving equipment and death is presumed to have been accidental.
Prior to “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, Takahashi began his manga career with the “TokiĆ no taka” series in 1982, which literally translates to “Fighting the King’s Hawk”. However, it was not until 1996 that Takahashi was successful with the creation of the manga series “Yu-Gi-Oh!”.
With the success of the manga, “Yu-Gi-Oh!” won a card game from Bandai, and later Konami, called “Magic and Wizards”. The cards were originally released in the United States in 2002 and have become one of the most popular card games in the world and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” became a phenomenon, winning several video games, TV series and films.
“Yu-Gi-Oh!” was named by the Guinness Book in 2011 as the best-selling card game in the world. The latest game “Yu-Gi-Oh!” called Master Duel, released in 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation.
Takahashi continued to oversee the creation of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” until the end. Recently, just a few weeks ago, Viz released a new project by Kazuki Takahashi featuring Marvel characters Spider-Man and Iron Man, who “travel to Japan to battle an evil game mogul and his deadly new technology.” The story is part of the canon of the Marvel 616 universe.
