The battle between Epic Games and Apple has been going on for more than four years, when the Fortnite company challenged the App Store’s rules
The rules for publishing and selling games in the company’s digital stores Apple Comes from Google are a recurring subject of complaints from game and software developers, because both giants, according to critics, charge a high fee to be offered on their shelves, in addition to prioritizing their products in a prime position in advertising. Epic Games was one of the few companies to challenge these guidelines, and now it has finally won, after legal defeats.

The whole issue started in 2020, when Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney accused Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store of “making more money than the creators themselves.” He cited, in particular, the charging of a 30% commission on every in-game purchase. Fortnite on the App Store.
Since Sweeney’s complaints and pressure had no effect, he decided to integrate his payment system Software on the App Store. Apple, of course, didn’t like it at all and blocked the Fortnite in your digital store
Since then, Epic Games has been fighting a legal and moral battle against Google and, more importantly, Apple. The case dragged on until January of this year, when the US Supreme Court declared Apple’s victory. However, the developer has something to celebrate.
This is because the European Union (EU) has long been monitoring and fining Apple and Google precisely because of alleged illegal market practices and unfair competition, such as offering their products at the expense of other publishers.

Therefore, in the EU, Apple and Google have been forced to make several changes to their digital stores to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the region. The guidelines state, for example, that developers with apps through the App Store must be allowed to inform customers about alternative purchasing options, as well as direct them to such offers and make such purchases without any reduction in revenue.
So Epic Games can finally do exactly what it was doing when Fortnite was banned from the App Store. The company has already confirmed that it has filed the Fortnite to Apple “for the required authentication process.”
And since Apple is forced to accept, everything suggests that Fortnite will finally be able to return to iPhone and iPad in the coming months. It’s okay that the process may take months, and Maçã probably won’t want to pay attention to this approval. However, Epic Games is confident that it will soon return to the European App Store.
