Quentin Tarantino is a director who, as we know, never went to film school, but received all the film education he needed by working in a video library and watching and studying movies nonstop. As a result, not only has he become one of the most famous directors of the modern era, but there are few human beings on the planet who have such a broad and encyclopedic knowledge of the medium.
Understanding Tarantino’s reverence for movies, you’d think he’d be very careful about picking the first title his young son sees … but it turns out the opposite is true. The director exposed his son to his first film by accident, and it turned out that My Favorite Villain 2.
This hilarious revelation was recently made by Quentin Tarantino in an interview with Empire as he specifically discusses his approach to introducing his children to the cinema (he has a two-year-old son and a baby boy born this month with wife Daniella Pick). She explained that one day she randomly intended to show him his son to you serve cartoon, but it turned out to be the first my favorite villain continuation:
[My son is] quite young, so he only saw one movie. I thought he was watching a Minions cartoon, and I realized it was Despicable Me Part 2. And he seemed interested in the opening credits, so I thought, ‘Okay, I guess we’re watching Despicable Me Part 2.’
Moving on, Quentin Tarantino added that his son took a minute to adjust to the cinematic experience, but they finished the film by watching it in segments over the course of a week. Says the director,
He gets up and goes behind the sofa, but continues to watch television. We watched him for 20 minutes, until it was time for him to go to the park, then the next day we watched him for another 15 minutes. And so, over the course of a week, in small bites, the first movie Leo saw was Despicable Me Part 2.
Having accidentally shown his son My Favorite Villain 2 in segments, you may be able to make the first time your kids see a full movie something special in the months / years to come.
As for Quentin Tarantino’s son’s other television habits besides watching you servesays the director Peppa Pig it’s a favorite and you certainly don’t feel like you’re suffering from the viewing experience.
In fact, I like Peppa Pig; I watch it a lot. I’ll say it: Peppa Pig is the largest British import of this decade.
In addition to raising his young children, Quentin Tarantino is gearing up to shoot his 10th (and potentially final) film … although at this point we have no idea what it will be and there are a lot of questions.
