Netflix has begun phasing out its cheapest ad-free plan, kicked off by subscribers in the UK and Canada. According to social media posts, you will have to upgrade to a different plan by the end of the month to continue using the streaming service.

Netflix to End Basic Ad-Free Plan
It’s worth noting that the company announced in January that it would phase out its basic ad-free plan starting in the second quarter of this year. It remains to be seen when the change will come to more markets. Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed, for example, when it will begin discontinuing the basic plan for current U.S. subscribers.

Netflix’s strategy is to encourage adoption of the ad-supported plan for those who want to stay subscribed to the service while paying less. In May, the plan surpassed the 40 million subscriber threshold.
