What are dragon seeds and why will they be important in ‘House of the Dragon 2’?

“House of the Dragon” has made several changes compared to the work it is based on, namely “Fire and Blood”. While we’ve seen the controversy over the Iron Throne, there’s one topic that’s been completely overlooked that will be hugely important: the dragon’s seeds. We explain to you.

Dragon Seeds: The Key Element Omitted from “House of the Dragon”

If you know the new episodes every Sunday, you must have noticed that in all of them there are scenes showing some male characters who do not seem to have anything to do, since their role in the series is not explained.

We refer to Hugh Hammer, a blacksmith who asks Aegon II for help with payments for his work in advance. Adam and Alyn of Hull, two brothers who work to build Corliss Velaryon’s ships. and Ulf, who claims to be Daemon Targaryen’s half-brother.

All this, for now, seems to be “too much in the chapters”; However, what ‘House of the Dragon’ has omitted so far is that they would be dragon riders.

What are dragon seeds and where does the term come from?

According to the project “Fire and Blood”, four of them are dragonseeds, that is, bastard children of people with Valyrian heritage, namely the Velaryon and Targaryen houses.

The term comes from an ancient tradition known as “first night”, where the feudal lord or king was given permission to have sexual relations with a virgin woman on her wedding night. They could choose any female regardless of social status, and it was considered a “blessing of the gods” if the result of that night was pregnancy, thus giving birth to the dragon’s seeds.

This means that, with Valyrian blood in their veins, they can become riders and tame dragons. With this in mind, in the original story, Jace Velaryon invites them to support Rhaenyra Targaryen in exchange for titles and property, as there are many of these riderless winged beasts.

Although this is expected to happen in the next chapters of “House of the Dragon”, the problem is that, despite its introduction with some appearances, those who do not know the book on which the series is based may feel confused, because they do. they don’t know its real purpose.

It is important to note that each played an important role in Dance of the Dragons, helping in important matches. However, not everyone makes it out alive.

How many dragon seeds are known in the book “Fire and Blood”?

So far the 4 dragon seeds that could be part of the alliance with the Black Council have been shown, but there are 4 more that have yet to appear in the show.

This new vision of pure children is something different from what we saw in “Game of Thrones”, where these people, despite carrying the blood of a relevant House, are despised to the point of not acquiring any goods, such as land or property. unless your parent decides. Otherwise, their death is most often sought.
