OSS 117: A red alert in Black Africa sees Nicolas Bedos supporting the third adventure of Hubert Bonnier de la Bath, still being performed by Jean Dujardin. In this new opus, OSS 117 is forced to merge with a younger agent on it, OSS 1001, played by Pierre Nin.
When we write this trip to Africa for OSS 117, we meet Jean-François Halin, who has already signed two previous films, Cairo Spy Nest and Rio no longer responds. With the microphone BFM TVHe explained that certain parts of his script had been changed by Nicolas Bedos and a scene that was close to his heart had been cut out, a scene about giraffes:
“OSS 1001 told OSS 117 why they had a long neck. He explained that they ate all the leaves that were at the bottom of the tree and therefore left only what was at the top. Only those who had a long neck survived. “

And 117 said that if long-legged giraffes ate all the leaves from the top, there should be leaves at the bottom and, consequently, short-necked giraffes. He then went in search of short-necked giraffes throughout the film. It was a scene I liked. It was a simple OSS.
Nicolas Bedos made the choice of both cutting it out and reviewing the film chronology to reduce its density and improve its fluidity. So the red thread of the short-sleeved giraffes disappeared and the conspiracy remained focused on the revolt against President Bamba and the difficult relationship from 117 to 1001.

“Inspired Zeferin much earlier than I mentioned”Recalls Halin. “There are faces of the president to protect against assassinations, that’s it. It’s a great idea. We’ve reworked some scenes together, he’s cut out others, which I regret – but that’s a lot of screenwriting.”
Scenes cut or not, OSS 117: Red Alarm in Black Africa still unites 1.62 million moviegoers in cinemas in the unfavorable context of the pandemic. This evening is his first small screen show reserved for Canal + subscribers.
