Endrick made his debut as a starter for the Brazilian national team
Endrick’s first match for Brazil ended on a sour note as Brazil was eliminated on penalties by Uruguay in their bid to reach the quarter-finals of the Copa América. After the match, the 17-year-old forward gave an interview to TV Globo, in which he spoke of his frustration at his fall in the continental competition.
– I’m sad, right? It’s a feeling not only for us, but for the Brazilians now. It’s difficult to be eliminated, especially on penalties. It’s too difficult. We want to bring Brazil back to the top. But unfortunately this time it won’t happen – said the attacker.
Endrick also said that he will continue to work on his preparation and that he hopes that the team has the support of all the Brazilian people.
– Let’s keep working, let’s keep preparing for the World Cup. I hope we will have the support of all Brazilians. I know it’s very difficult right now, but their support would be fundamental for us. I thank God for the opportunity to play as a starter, that’s what I have to say – said the striker.
He had a lacklustre performance, but created the team’s main chance in the second half with a shot from outside the area, which was saved by Sergio Rochet.
After the Copa América, Endrick will have a week off before returning to Real Madrid. The Brazilian team will return to play the South American qualifiers only at the beginning of September, when the team will face Ecuador, in a match that should take place in Porto Alegre.
