Paramount + is developing a fantasy series that will see Nicolas Cage (“The Weight of Talent”) as a dragon.
The project is not an animation for children, but a hybrid production based on the adult thriller book “Highfire” by Eoin Colfer (author of “Artemis Fowl”).
The premise is a combination of “True Detective” and “My Friend the Dragon”, and was developed by Davey Holmes, the creator of the “Get Shorty” series.
In the plot, Highfire (Cage) is a dragon who drinks vodka, loves “Flashdance” and lives an isolated existence in the swamps of Louisiana. Hidden among trees and alligators, he just wants to spend eternity drinking and watching TV. But one day a human teenager crosses paths with him, running away from trouble after becoming a liquor salesman for the local mob. And that meeting ends up creating an unlikely friendship and … a struggle for survival.
Still in its early stages, “Highfire” does not yet have a production schedule or preview date.
