Beverly Hills Cop 4 on Netflix: Is the Eddie Murphy Movie Any Good?

Thirty years after the last installment, Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills Cop 4. The film, which is available on Netflix, marks Eddie Murphy’s return to the role that made him popular in the eighties. If this opus didn’t really convince us – read our review here – what about the audience?

On AlloCiné, the fourth part of Beverly Hills Cop averages a 3.5 out of 5, matching the first two films – 3.6 and 3.1 – and much better than the third part – 2, 6 out of 5. A small anthology. Viewer reviews:

According to Harry6489 (4 of 5): “Without a doubt, Axel F’s biggest asset is the return of Eddie Murphy in the iconic role of Axel Foley. From the very first moments, the actor brings back the legendary energy and humor that made the original films such a success. (…)

Overall, “Axel F.” is a fun and entertaining film that fans of the original trilogy will enjoy. It may not be the series’ best, but it’s a welcome return for Eddie Murphy in the role he made famous..”

According to Pierre Mora (4 of 5): “Not the movie of the decade, but a good entertainer that reminded me of my childhood. Eddie Murphy doesn’t look his age.

According to Smoker One (4 of 5):A good time in the company of Axel Foley and his (albeit quite old) friends! The movie is fast paced and really enjoyable. Action and good laughs with a few tirades from a BH cop. For me, who grew up with his movies, Eddie Murphy is his equal and brings us pleasure and nostalgia.. “

According to Gerard Stevenson (3.5 out of 5): “30 years after the third installment, Eddie Murphy returns (on Netflix) for a fourth time as Axel Foley. The fact that he’s less energetic, more sober, elevates the saga (immensely). We find the chase, the action, the starting cast (including the return of Taggart), the lines, the tricks of Foley. Added to this are guests (Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who are up to the task. For those who especially cherished the first “Beverly Hills Cop,” a bit of nostalgia reigns.

According to Brice L (3.5 out of 5): “A sequel that could easily have found its place in cinema, it’s the return of our good old Eddie Murphy who hasn’t aged a bit, the return of the cast, the brilliant soundtrack that takes us back 20 years or more, Eddie. Murphy hasn’t lost any of his acting qualities, he’s full of energy and hasn’t lost the humor we find in this 4th installment.. It’s entertaining, an explosive mix of humor and action for me 3.5/5.”

What about bad grades then?

According to Mel de Paris (2.5 out of 5): “The franchise still seems stuck in the 80s and 90s, with a story that not only lacks innovation, but also seems positively stale, Axel F. Still showing the attitude of a cheeky teenager…

According to XaD (2 of 5): “A fourth opus that is largely irreplaceable and surprising for bedridden nostalgics. Despite the iconic scenes and music of the first part, which are not a little old, they kissed more or less successfully, this nostalgia is turned into a cockroach by a ghostly script and historical actors..”

According to Thierry B (1.5 out of 5): “A lazy and ultra-classic scenario worthy of an AI. It’s really real, maybe it’s not worse. (…) A movie from another era that wants to use the good old movies of the 90s, except that the mix doesn’t work anymore. Blame it on the new era. Fortunately there is Netflix (Lotus). Well, if you keep your childish spirit or you are a teenager.”
