Brazil’s embarrassment against Germany turns 10
Former referee Arnaldo Cézar Coelho recalled the broadcast of Brazil’s 7-1 defeat against Germany, which turns 10 on Monday (8). In a conversation on “Charla Podcast”, the referee commentator recalled the reactions of Walter Casagrande and Ronaldo in the Globo broadcast booth.
– Galvão told the story, looked at me and made that face… I looked at Ronaldo, he was perplexed, and I looked to the right, Casagrande was crying. That day was terrifying. My children had taken a plane to see the game, they had created expectations. It seemed like a training session, the boys were scoring, it seemed like a game between professionals against children – Arnaldo recalls.
Germany defeated the Brazilian team on 8 July 2014 in the World Cup semi-final in Mineirão. Muller, Khedira, Klose, Kroos (2) and Schurrle (2) scored the goals for the Germans. Oscar declined for Brazil. Felipão’s team still lost the third-place match against the Netherlands, while Germany defeated Argentina in the final.
