In the heart of New York City, the Washington Heights neighborhood is where anything is possible. Usnavi, the owner of a small cafe next door, dreams of returning to his roots in the Dominican Republic. But things get complicated when he meets Vanessa, a young woman who dreams of becoming a stylist. Their meeting, in the background of dance and music, will suddenly turn their lives upside down.
Like many movies that were supposed to hit theaters in 2020, Here We Come has suffered a crisis and a pandemic. After a delay of several months, audiences from all over the world were able to go to the cinema for the big screen of this iconic musical comedy in the United States.
And even if the attendance was very low due to health conditions, the feature film was praised by international critics, highlighting the quality of the director and the actors – Anthony Ramos and Melissa Barreira in the main roles.
The music, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda himself in his 2005 work, speaks to a wide and varied range of topics, from the enrichment of working-class New York neighborhoods to love and friendship. Where We Come From is a particularly sunny and rhythmic film that will make you smile (if not for the desire of Usnavi and his friends to dance in the heart of the barrio…).
Hollywood’s new darling
Fans of musicals know the face of Anthony Ramos well, as he was a member of the main cast of Hamilton, the American production that was a huge success on Broadway and around the world.
There he transferred his properties to the deposed John Lawrence and then to Philip Hamilton, Alexander’s son. He was logically chosen by his friend Lin-Manuel Miranda to star in Where We Come From when the film project was created.
Since then, the 32-year-old actor has had a string of big-budget performances: he was chosen to star in 2023’s Transformers 7, the new installment in the iconic saga. Enter Shia LaBeouf and Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Ramos takes control of Bumblebee’s Camaro to protect Earth from the Decepticons.
The actor is also in the news with a very attractive film release: opposite Glenn Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, he plays a thunder chaser in Twisters, the sequel to one of the best disaster movies of the 90s.
And it doesn’t have to stop for Anthony Ramos. The latter actually joined List of 10 Most In-demand Young Actors A moment he shares with Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Mescal and Jacob Ellord. We need to hear from him for a while…
