Eighteen years after its release, the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” has become a pop culture reference that continues to delight its fans, as recently proved.
The furor over Andy Sachs, Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton’s story is about to grow, because a sequel is in the works, according to new reports.
The sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is in development
On July 8, niche media like ‘Puck’ or ‘Variety’ announced that ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is in development under Disney production. However, the producer has not confirmed the news.
The original film was released in 2006 and is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. The film tells the story of Andy Sachs, a young journalist who starts working as an assistant to the demanding editor of “Runway” magazine, Miranda Priestly. Throughout the film, Andy is forced to navigate the dynamic and competitive world of fashion while struggling to maintain her personal and professional balance.
Although the story did not leave loose ends, in 2013, Lauren Weisberger published a sequel to her book, entitled “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns”, which focuses 10 years after the original events, when Andy seems to have succeeded all his dreams and Miranda returns to her life.
What will ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ do? What is known about the plot
The new story will focus on Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlotte. The editor of “Runway” is in the final years of her career and faces the decline of print magazines, while her assistant left her job as an executive at a luxury fashion brand group. Priestly has to confront her about asking for ads in her publication.
Will the original cast of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ return for the sequel?
As of now, there are few details about the film in progress. “Puck” reports that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, who played Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton, will reprise their iconic roles.
It has not been confirmed whether Anne Hathaway will join the reunion story, however, last April she said in an interview with ‘V Magazine’ that she ‘probably wouldn’t’ do ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ after imagining how she might work.
The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is in talks to work on the new script.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Release Date
No official release date has been announced for the sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, but since it’s only in the early stages of development, we can assume the wait will be at least an anus.
