UNESCO launches international emergency mission to assess cultural heritage situation in RS


The experts will remain in the state until July 19 and the actions will take place until December

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in collaboration with the Secretariat of Culture (Sedac) and the Ministry of Culture, is launching on Wednesday (10) an international emergency mission that will cover several state cultural institutions to assess the damage caused to cultural heritage and archives, as well as support the recovery of collections and collectors affected by the flood.




The launch event will take place at 5:00 p.m., at Palácio Piratini, in the presence of Governor Eduardo Leite, Secretary of Culture, Beatriz Araujo, and Director and Representative of UNESCO in Brazil, Marlova Jovchelovitch Noleto. After the presentation of the details, a press conference will be held to assist the press.

The mission, promoted with the resources of the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund, will be composed of historian and archaeologist Andrea Richards, from Barbados, and cultural rescuer Samuel Franco, from Guatemala. The experts will remain in the State until July 19 and the actions will take place until December.
