The most recent chapter of “House of the Dragon,” titled “The Red Dragon and the Gold,” showed us an intense fight between Aegon II, Rhaenys, and Aemond Targaryen. After these events and the death of Rhaenys with Meleys, what riders and dragons are left and will we see in action?
Dragons and their current riders
Caraxes and Daemon Targaryen
Daemon is one of the men of noble blood best prepared for war due to his skill with the sword. What makes him even stronger is his dragon Caraxes. So far, the dragon in question is safe, but it is very likely that he will join the war soon, so his future is uncertain in the series, although he dies in the book.
Dreamfyre and Helaena Targaryen
Helaena suffered a severe blow when she saw one of her children die, and although she doesn’t seem to have any intention of fighting Rhaenyra, she does have a blue and silver dragon named Dreamfyre, which is currently unseen in the series.
Moondancer and Baela Targaryen
Baela is one of Rhaenyra’s followers and so far has shown great bravery, as she did not hesitate to patrol the skies with her dragon Moondancer, with which she was going to exterminate Sir Criston Cole. According to the Fire and Blood project there could be a showdown next season that would be of great importance in Dance of the Dragons.
Vhagar and Aemond Targaryen
Vhagar is known to be the biggest dragon in the TV drama and we saw how with little effort he was able to take Meleys life. Later, the animal and its rider will fight again causing heavy casualties to Rhaenyra and company.
Syrax and Rhaenyra Targaryen
Rhaenyra hasn’t gone into battle so far, but her dragon, despite its absence, is safe and sound, so she’ll be a very important element in the Dance of the Dragons.
Sunfyre and Aegon II Targaryen
The golden animal fought against the Meleys and despite its severe injuries, the book states that it does not die, but has scars on one of its wings. Likewise, Aegon II appeared dead at the end of “House of Dragon” chapter 4, though the original story notes that he was injured as well, meaning we’ll continue to see them unless the plot changes.
Vermax and
Jacaerys Velaryon
Rhaenyra’s eldest son has his own dragon named Vermax, who we’ve only seen a few times on screen. In the books, he takes part in the Battle of Gaznate, where his life and that of his rider will be in danger. For now, he has helped Jacaerys move to support her mother in winning the war.
Dragons that could have riders in the next chapters
Vermithor and Hugh Hammer
On more than one occasion it has been made clear that there are many more dragons at Rhaenyra Targaryen’s side, some of which have only appeared a few times in a row, but have no rider. One of them is Vermithor, whose previous master was Jaehaerys I Targaryen. However, if the original plot line is followed, this dragon will be ridden by Hugh Hammer at some point in the series. Being a dragon seed, that is, a bastard human son of Valyrian heritage, Hugh Hammer will fight to achieve victory for the Black Council.
Silverwing and Ulf
Ulf is a character who already appeared in “House of the Dragon”, claiming to be Daemon Targaryen’s half-brother. Just like Hugh Hammer will get a chance to ride Silverwing, former Queen Alysanne Targaryen’s ancient dragon in the Dance of Dragons if the original story doesn’t change.
Seasmoke and Addam the Hull
As with Ulf and Hugh Hammer, Adam turns out to be a “dragonseed” and could claim Seasmoke, Laenor Velaryon’s ancient dragon that actually roamed Dragonstone, also fight in the war between the Green Council the Black Council.
