Once: Gru, Lucy, and the girls, Margot, Edith, and Agnes welcome the youngest of the family, Gru Jr., who seems to have only one passion: driving his father crazy. But Gru meets a new enemy, Maxime Le Mal, who, with the help of his lover, the fatal Valentina, forces the whole family to escape.
French sounds: Gad Elmaleh reprises the role of Gru for the fifth time in the first three films of the main saga and the spin-off Minions: Once Upon a Time focuses on the youth of the hero Gru. The role the actor has been playing for 14 years.
During our meeting with Gad Elmaleh to promote this film, the actor told us that he was inspired by the work of Steve Carell – the original voice of Gru – but also by his son, then 8 years old, to find. Perfect accent.
“I did my vocal tests with Gru’s voice in front of my son Noah, who is now 23 and a father. He was 8 at the time. I tried a lot of things and he said ‘No’ or ‘Expand the R’s more.’
Audrey Lemmy, who is used to voicing her voice, takes on the role of Lucy, Gru’s companion and Junior’s mother, for the third time. In this new opus, Lucy will have to adapt to her new identity and become a hairdresser. Which will make for a memorable scene.

And it’s Alex Lutz who meets these two franchise regulars. The actor voices the main antagonist of the feature film, Maxime Le Mal. Will Ferrell voices the cockroach in the original version. During the Despicable Me 4 press day, Alex Lutz told us that he had to find his own interpretation of the character.
“I wasn’t really inspired by Will Ferrell’s work because there was a range of stories… and then actually in the US he had to speak with a thick French accent. I was told to do things that were a little precious and a little childish, but I wasn’t going to have another accent so , we found something else.”
Finally, Pierre Coffin, one of the creators of the Minions and their special vocabulary, interprets the voices of all the Minions.
Maxime Le Mal and Gru
What they will like: A year later Minions 2: Once upon a time, the little yellow men are back in cinemas in the fourth installment of the main Despicable Me saga. Seven years after the third opus, Gru, Lucy and the girls are back in the movies.
After finding his brother Dru, Gru introduces us to a new member of his family: Gru Junior. Except the baby isn’t a big fan of dad and isn’t going to make life easier for him. A parenting relationship that will entertain both children and parents.
Despicable Me 4 Has several stories in one and many characters. During a reunion of former Méchants students, Gru tries to stop his former “classmate” Maxime Le Mal, but the latter manages to escape and promises to make Gru’s life hell. Therefore, the hero must move to a new area with his whole family and change his identity. That’s where he meets Poppy, a little girl who only wants one thing: to become the biggest villain ever.

Poppy
A gallery of new characters and new locations (notably Gru’s old high school, reminiscent of Hogwarts) that spawn a rogue-like sequence that will delight kids. Especially the Mega Minions passage.
During our meeting with director Chris Renault at the Annecy festival, the latter told us about the public’s love for the little yellow heroes: “The Minions are, for the most part, a saga comedy, then they evolved enough to have their own movies: their language was enriched, they sang songs.
Here they gain superpowers. Here is another area where we needed to come up with new ideas. Of course, we use certain elements that are already used in the first parts and that we like, but above all we try to find new ways to use them. These little creatures are so cute, it would be impossible not to include them in the story.”

Mega Minions
What might be bothering them: If your children have seen and enjoyed previous operations, you can rest easy! Nevertheless, the most sensitive or the youngest may be impressed by the scene of Gru Junior’s abduction and his transformation.
which they will hold deeply : The arrival of a child will disturb the balance in the life of Gru and his family. This topic allows us to address the topic of fatherhood that speaks to both children and parents.
Chris Renault, interviewed by us on the subject, explains: “We wanted to show this situation that I think many parents and especially fathers have experienced: the one where their baby can’t stand being in their arms. We’ve all had this experience. That seemed like a good place to start. Then when the kid sees that his dad is acting like a bad guy, you see that’s when they start to bond. We’re brought closer to this child’s personality, like Gru must have had when he was little. He is naughty. And having that dynamic at the beginning of the movie allows us to develop their relationship at the end.”

The film also deals with the difficulty of integrating in a new place when you move or change schools. Director Chris Reno also found parallels with his own experiences. He explains in the press kit: “LThe rebellion that the forced family felt touched me. It reminded me of my own experience of moving around as a teenager. The story explores the challenges of integrating into a new environment, which I think many viewers will enjoy. Even if not everyone is juggling complexities like identity secrecy and witness protection, everyone will be able to find themselves in Mike White’s signature mix of comedy and drama that spans this entire story.“
With its running gags (a minion stuck in a candy machine), Pop, the young neighbor who aims to become the biggest super villain, his scenes worthy of the best spy movies, the mega minions and especially Gru Jr. Despicable Me 4 You will have a great time relaxing and laughing with your family.
This energizing cocktail can be seen in our cinemas this Wednesday, July 10.
