Dragon House: [SPOILER] is he dead

Warning, spoilers. It is recommended that you watch House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 before continuing with this article.

After arriving at the halfway point, House of Dragons season 2, currently airing on the MAX platform, finally begins the famous “Dance of Dragons”, the bloody war that destroyed the Targaryen dynasty.

It is the fourth episode, entitled “The Red Dragon” and “The Golden Dragon,” that finally sets up this awesome conflict of the novel. Fire and blood by George RR Martin, from whom the series is adapted.

During this episode, fans were able to discover the Siege of Rookrest, one of the first battles of “Dance with Dragons”. First of all, this is the first confrontation involving dragons in both camps, and one that has devastating consequences for both the greens and the blacks.

Although the Greens won this battle and Rhaenys (Eva Best), the “Queen That Never Was” and her dragon Meliss were killed after clashing with Emond (Evan Mitchell) and his dragon Vagar, they saw King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), who comes drunk and disillusioned to the battlefield with his dragon Sunfire in very bad shape.

Did this character die?

Indeed, during the battle, Aemond attacked Rhaenys and his brother Aegon in the middle of the battle after Rhaenys had burned the Kriston Cole’s troops. At this time Emond and Vagar appear from hiding and attack the “Drakaris” indiscriminately. When we look closer, we even see that Emond deliberately attacks Aegon before finishing off Meliss and Rhaenys.

Aegon and Sunfire then fall to the ground and we find them at the end of the episode in a miserable state. Emond advances towards them and draws his sword, expecting to finish off Aegon, but is stopped by Kristen Cole.

So Egon died? If they give us the answer in the next episode, we can already refer to the book Fire and blood George R.R. by Martin to find out, as House of the Dragon extensively adapts this novel.

Warning, spoilers – if you don’t want to know, don’t read on. In the book, King Aegon doesn’t die after the siege of Rocks Rest, but he is still seriously injured. Half of his body was burnt and many parts were broken. These injuries kept him bedridden for almost a year.

During his convalescence, during which only his mother Alicent and her guardian Christon Cole were allowed to see him, Prince Emond reigned in his stead as Prince Regent and Protector of the Realm.

When he was able to regain his seat on the throne, Aegon was greatly weakened with a scarred body, bent and twisted for the rest of his life. On the other hand, his dragon Sunfire was severely maimed and would also need time to recover from his injuries.

It’s unlikely that the series will completely deviate from the book regarding Aegon’s future. House of the Dragon followed the vast majority of the events of the novel, with some differences, but the deaths of the characters never changed, as evidenced by the disappearance of Rhaenys and Mael during Rux’s vacation.

We’ll have to wait for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5, available July 15 on the MAX platform, to find out Aegon’s fate in the series, as the trailer for this episode was obviously careful not to give away.

Season 2 of “Dragon House” is currently streaming on the MAX platform.
