Why do brides cut their hair halfway through the wedding?

Celebrity hairdressers weigh in on the new trend that’s gone viral on TikTok and give advice for those who want to be daring with their party hairstyle

In recent months, a curious trend has attracted attention on social media, especially on TikTok: brides who decide to cut their hair in the middle of their wedding.

The gesture, which surprises partners, family and guests, raises questions about self-expression, freedom and changing aesthetic standards in such traditional ceremonies.

To understand how the trend works, the Earth you I spoke with three professionals: the hairdresser to the stars, Celso Kamura, the hairdresser and partner of the Jacques Janine salon, Rodrigo Casi, and the wedding planner of Duas Eventos, Chris Godinho.

The position is suitable for cutting

A hairdresser and beauty artist for over 45 years, Celso Kamura says he has already treated the hair of a bride who has embraced the trend and points out that the challenges this decision can bring range from room lighting to the right chair.

In Kamura’s ceremony haircut, his client had long hair and opted for a chignon before cutting her locks into a long, shoulder-length bob.

“I think some people might want to shock guests with an unusual haircut, which happened to me, but we prepare for this. The place must be adapted so that the professional can do a good job in time, you can’t rush,” says the specialist.

Is it worth wasting time at parties?

For the ceremonialist Chris Godinho the fashion should not be prolonged due to the possible delays and irritations that this type of actions can cause during the wedding.

“When the bride gets up to get ready, she simply touches up her makeup and fixes her hair. This is the time we have for the guests to enter the room, start serving drinks and food, and everyone to get in line with what is coming next. If the bride arrives too late, there is a risk that the party will not be fun and prolonged, since the entrance of the bride is the moment that marks the beginning of the celebration,” says the expert.

Rodrigo Casi emphasizes that the challenge of this trend is the type of cut that will be done, emphasizing that not all cuts can be done with dry hair and that in these cuts special attention is needed. If the bride has a wavy hairstyle, for example, it is necessary to align the hair before the cut.

For brides who want to follow the trend, the hairdresser recommends simpler hairstyles for the big day and says that on some occasions less elaborate hair is preferred.

“Today, hairdos are simpler, much cleaner. Sometimes you just need a twist, two hairpins and you have a bride. So yes, it can be done, as long as it is planned in advance, and my advice would be to simply do the bride’s hair so that you don’t have to wash your hair after undoing a hairstyle. Then I think she will do it, she will look gorgeous, happy at the party, she will make an impact and, if the idea is impactful, she will definitely make it happen,” says the professional.

@tessa.peso I loved this idea and the bride looked GORGEOUS. The couple’s reaction to this surprise was also very sweet🥹 #documentaryphotography #travelphotographer #weddingphotographer ♬ original sound – Wedding Wonderland
