After 5 years since the premiere of the first part, Netflix has revealed the official trailer for “El Hoyo 2”, the sequel to the hit Spanish thriller.
“El Hoyo” premiered in 2019 and became a hit exploring the extreme dynamics of social inequality through a surreal and brutal prison system.
The feature film became the fifth most-viewed Spanish-language film in the platform’s history with more than 80 million views.
The intense and provocative story won several international awards such as the People’s Choice Award for Midnight Madness at the Toronto International Film Festival and a European Film Award for “Best Special Effects”.

When is ‘El Hoyo 2’ coming out and who will star in the sequel?
The film was again directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and stars Milena Smit, Hovik Keuchkerian (“La casa de papel”), Natalia Tena (“Game of Thrones”) and Óscar Jaenada (“Cantinflas”, “Luis Miguel, the series’), promises to maintain the level of tension and suspense that characterized its predecessor.
The release date has also been confirmed by Netflix, the film will be available from October 4 on the streaming platform.
What is “El Hoyo 2”?
The plot of “El Hoyo 2” takes us back to the creepy environment of the “El Pozo” prison, known as the Vertical Self-Management Center.
In this prison system, at mealtimes, a platform loaded with food descends slowly, stopping briefly at each level. This allows those staying on the upper floors to enjoy the food without restriction, while those on the lower levels have to wait, unsure of whether they will find anything to eat.
The sequel introduces a mysterious leader who will impose his law and unleash an even more ruthless struggle (than in the first installment) among the prisoners.
The preview reveals violent scenes where desperation continues to be the prisoners’ main driving force, it also introduces us to a new tenant, played by Milena Smit (“The Girl in the Snow”) who will have to face the challenge of survival in these extreme conditions.
The second part, considered one of the most anticipated productions of the year on Netflix, will continue to explore social criticism and a disturbing approach to human nature. The film seeks to invite audiences to reflect on inequalities and the struggle for social change in an increasingly divided world.

The lights change from a bluish tone to a bright red, causing mass hysteria as the platform that provides food to the prisoners rises at high speed, leaving many levels without food.
The official synopsis highlights that eating the wrong dish can become a death sentence and raises the question of how far someone is willing to go to save their life.
