Amazonas beat Botafogo away from home, take a breather in relegation battle

In the 16th round of the Brasileirão Serie B, Amazonas defeated Botafogo-SP 1-0 at the Estádio Santa Cruz, with a goal from Barros.

An indigestible guest, Amazonas faced Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto on Friday night at the Santa Cruz Stadium (12) and won 1-0. In the match valid for the fifteenth round of the Brazilian Championship’s Serie B, the Amazonas team won one more break in the fight against relegation, while the São Paulo team became the first out of Z4. The only goal of the match was scored by midfielder Barros.

THE GAME

The first half was very intense, with many attacks from both sides. Onça started with control of the match and after 6 minutes he opened the scoring with Sassá, but he was in an offside position. It was in the 19th minute that the Amazonian club actually took the lead: after a corner kick from the right, Barros headed the ball into the opposite corner and found the net.

After conceding the goal, Botafogo began to dominate and have some chances, until in the 32nd minute Patrick Brey and Alex Sandro scored and the number 9 was brought down in the area. Douglas Baggio took the ball, but Alex Sandro asked to take it, but it was very bad, with a shot from half height, Marcão hit the corner and saved.

In the final phase, Tricolor tried to put pressure on Abafa’s base, launched an attack but without that real effectiveness. Through one cross or another, the chance to score a goal came, but the team from Sao Paulo failed to equalize the score.

While Amazonas remained in their comfort zone, without fear, Onça tried to keep possession whenever he could to waste time. With the score at 1-0, all they had to do was let the clock tick.

UPCOMING COMMITMENTS

Botafogo will travel to Alagoas, to face CRB at the Rei Pelé Stadium, at 20:30 (Brasilia time) next Wednesday (17). Amazonas visits América Mineiro at the Arena Independência, on Saturday at 17:00 (20).
