Vatican condemns attack on Trump, which ‘damages’ democracy

The statement was released after the Republican was killed

The Vatican condemned on Sunday (14) the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump during an electoral rally in Pennsylvania and expressed its “concern” about an attack that affects “people and democracy”.

“The Holy See expresses concern for the episode of violence last night, which has wounded people and democracy, causing suffering and death,” reads the note released by the Press Office.

According to the statement, the Catholic Church, led by Pope Francis, “joins the prayers of the North American bishops for America, for the victims and for peace in the country, so that the reasons of the violent no longer prevail.”

The attack against Trump was also condemned by the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Msgr. Timothy P. Broglio.

“We condemn political violence and offer our prayers for President Trump and those who have been killed or injured.

We also pray for our country and for an end to violence, which is never a solution to political differences,” he concluded.
